Name: Alexander Anderson. Door: Submissive. Canon: Hellsing (Japanese/English manga and supplemented by subbed OVA; I have not watched the Dubbed verson), primarily manga. Canon Point: Just prior to using the nail and engaging Vlad!Alucard in the final battle. Age: Unknown (approximately 60s). Appearance: Anime. Manga. I'm using manga caps for icons, but his colour-scheme is mostly OVA based. History: HERE. I've compiled his Duplicity threads here. While Anderson will remember most of his time in Duplicity, much of his personal development will be lost to him due to his absence (this is to make it easier on me, since it's been three years since he was last in Duplicity). However, he will be slightly more mellow and less judgemental than he was the last time he arrived in Duplicity, especially concerning faces he recognises. Faces he doesn't recognize will receive less courtesy. Personality: Strong Moral Code: As you might expect of a priest, Anderson is a man with a strong moral code. When he isn't at work, he promotes politeness, kindness, love, and lives of piety. He does talk of violence being justifiable against monsters and non-believers and talks up believing the only good protestant is a dead one, but to his credit, he becomes angry when innocents are needlessly slaughtered regardless of what they believe. He also intervenes when his underlings threaten to gang up on Intergra, as he believes he and his men would be no better than rapists were they to take advantage of her vulnerability and is even willing to walk her home when asked. Protestants and non-believers might be firmly in the category of enemies, but he will occasionally protect them and disapprove of their murder all the same. After all, he might be a human weapon, but he is one that is primarily concerned with protecting people. Obsessive: Alexander Anderson is a prominent member of the Iscariot Organisation, the Vatican black ops group, whose role is essentially as a human weapon against monsters and enemies of Iscariot. This usually concerns vampires, but has on occasion extended to Protestants and like enemies. He’s been genetically engineered for this purpose and performs it with a fanatical, sometimes gleeful doggedness. In battle, he utilises silver bayonets – quite literally making him a ‘gun of God’ – to ruthlessly dispatch his opponents and will speak bible passages throughout, further emphasising the obsession he has with dispensing what he believes to be the will of God. This obsession is demonstrated outside of his work as well, as he is shown to wish ill on monsters and non-believers in casual conversation. In keeping with this obsession, Anderson regards himself as little more than a weapon of God and will readily discard his life and humanity to fulfil his purpose. A purpose which, in the end, becomes to kill Alucard; a creature he considers the pinnacle of evil and a danger to all. Prior to forfeiting his humanity, Alucard pleads with Anderson not to become a monster and he doesn't listen. His convictions are too strong, and after having lost so many of his men, been forced to kill a man he raised, and been incapacitated and pushed to the brink of defeat, he sees no other path he can or should take. Anderson is also aware that due to his actions he will not go to heaven, but to limbo, and later to hell to fulfil Iscariot's sacred duty of killing '7,405,926 demons of hell'. He and all Iscariot agent are all aware of this, hence why they are named after Judas. They enact God's will while knowing full-well that breaking a holy commandment means they most likely won't be welcomed into heaven, which makes their conviction all the more unsettling. Just like Judas was necessary to bring about Christ's ascension, they consider themselves a necessary evil. The indoctrination is particularly severe with Anderson, who demonstrates so little regard for his own life and welfare that even other Iscariot members are horrified by it. This is, unfortunately, encouraged by his superiors, who don't shy away from calling him their 'trump card' and 'joker' and giving him a tool that they know full well will completely destroy his personhood and potentially lead to him living out a miserable, tortured existence as a monster Judgemental: Being the zealot that he is, Anderson is very judgemental. He doesn't try to hide the fact he has a deep dislike of protestants and heathens. In fact, he can be downright hostile to people who don't share his beliefs, particularly if they justify his negative opinion by being or doing something he doesn't approve of. He has gone so far as to kill or attempt to kill members of a protestant organisation in the past, though this is by no means common behaviour since the primary target for his violence are unholy beings. Ruthless: However, he is shown to be able to be just as ruthless with those he cares about as he is his enemies when they stray from God's path. When Maxwell - a man he raised from young childhood - becomes sick on power and brutalises the survivors of the Major’s attacks, Anderson directly enables Alucard’s hoard to take him down. It’s something he does without hesitation. He does, however, demonstrate terrible grief over the act, and it’s shortly after this that he announces to Alucard that he wants to be unfeeling and unthinking. As he expires, he talks about hearing Maxwell's voice and reaches for him as his body disintegrates. Powers and Abilities: Anderson is the Iscariot Organisation most powerful member. As such, he's absurdly strong and is one of the few capable of going toe to toe with Alucard. Regenerative ability: Anderson is capable of regenerating from what for most would be fatal wounds. Even several bullets to the head isn't enough to stop him; he simply re-grows the brain matter. While Alucard manages to shoot off a portion of his arm with a gun created specifically to combat his regenerative abilities, it's likely he would have been able to recover from that, too, given time. Skill with ranged weapons: primarily bayonets. He's able to throw dozens of them at the same time with impeccable accuracy and strength, and even use them to deflect bullets (thought this isn't often necessary, courtesy of his regenerative ability). He can kill mobs of people through use of these within seconds. Enhanced speed and reactions: Self-explanatory, but he moves fast enough to be on par with his vampire opponents and is capable of reacting to bullets. Enhanced strength: he's capable of staggering Alucard simply by punching him, which says a lot, considering Alucard can take bullets while maintaining his stance. He also throws his bayonets with such strength that they can embed themselves in metal and concrete without any difficulty. Enhanced stamina: At one point in the series, he takes on an entire ghoul army on his lonesome, and this is after he's been fighting for hours already. He can fight for so long that Alucard commends him for it. High pain tolerance: while Anderson is clearly capable of feeling pain, he'll work right through it. At one point his arm is hanging off and Alucard batters the hell out of him with his familiars, and he still continues fighting. Scripture manipulation: Anderson can use bible pages to form barriers against vampires/unholy beings and teleport. The latter ability likely only works over short distances and may require time to initiate, as he doesn't use it often in battle. Object consecration: exactly what it sounds like. He can consecrate objects to use against unholy beings. Fourth dimensional capabilities: Anderson seems to have an unlimited number of bayonets at his disposal, which the artist of Hellsing says at one point is due to Anderson being a forth dimensional being. For the game, I'm going to say it's his cassock that's capable of holding all these bayonets, rather than himself, and he can bless other clothes to perform the same function should this cassock be destroyed. Samples: I've compiled his Duplicity threads here. |
Anderson Canon Details/Headcanons
- Anderson is a big reader. When we see his room in the anime/manga, it is absolutely overflowing with books. Many of them are religious texts, but he also enjoys a variety of different non-fiction subjects and the occasional fictional story. His favourite topic is history, as is demonstrated by him indicating interest in history at several points throughout the manga/ova.

- He has pictures drawn by his children on his wall.

- It's been mentioned by Hirano Kouta that Iscariot is where 'misfits' end up. Most likely, Anderson was a problem child that got recruited into Iscariot to give his issues a more productive outlet.

- The issues he has in question are his violent tendencies. He is capable of demonstrating calm and composure, particularly now that he's older and in charge of children, but give him justification for violence and you'll have a beserker on your hands.
- Anderson hates bats. He reacts in alarm when Alucard turns into a swarm of bats in part because he just really does not like bats.

- Part of Anderson's role at the orphanage is to select candidates for Iscariot once the children have grown and are considering future prospects.
- The regeneration abilities he possesses slows his ageing. Beyond growing stubble, Anderson hasn't physically changed since Maxwell, Yumie and Heinkel were children.
- He's slightly short-sighted, hence the glasses, but he can see well enough without them.
- Anderson became a seminarian at age 15. He went to seminary school for four years to get a Bachelors degree in Theology, and then took an additional three years to get his Masters of Divinity qualification. After this, he became a deacon and spent three years as one, and was ordained a full priest at 25.
- Anderson has learned a lot of useful life skills to be able to help out at the orphanage. He can sew, cook, iron, repair minor electronics, etc.
- He often has to repair toys for children. He has a little kit in his bedroom for this purpose and will often work while watching the news.
- He doesn't watch television often. Usually only for the news and maybe a movie. He prefers to read.
- Anderson has been mentioned to use more archaic language than the rest of the Hellsing cast.
- Anderson knows all languages spoken in Vatican City. English, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Latin, Portuguese, and Arabic. He can speak, read and write them to varying degrees.
Opt-Out/In;
First, a note to characters who play vampires: while Anderson is capable of reaching a point where he mellows on his opinion of vampires, he will start out extremely hostile toward vampires and may attempt to kill any vampires he encounters. When starting out in a game, I'll generally avoid tagging vampires unless I'm certain they're comfortable with this kind of negative CR, and I'll always ask before Anderson tries to assault one. If a vampire tags him first, I'll take that as permission on the CR front (not the assault one! I'll always talk to you first), but feel free to rescind that at any time.
Anderson will have a similar reaction to other unholy beings and it'll be much harder for him to mellow on his opinions of devils and demons. He's not incapable of it, especially in a place where he's forced to socialise with them, but his CR will remain heavily negative for a long time.
So basically: if you want me to avoid tagging your character until Anderson mellows, I can do that. If you want to avoid Anderson altogether, I can do that too.
If you play an unholy being (or any sort of non-human who requires some effort to be noticed as such) and are open to CR with Anderson, then I'd like to know some things he may notice about your character! He's a hunter, so he has an eye for noticing odd details, like whether or someone breathes, if they have fangs, if they're unnaturally cold or pale, stuff like that.
Anderson's also a highly religious character and religion will inevitably come up, and he's kind of parody of Catholicism, being as ridiculous and extra as he is. It's impossible to play him without reference to his being Catholic, so I'll understand if you want to opt-out or opt-out of him entirely or opt-out on certain aspects of his religion. He won't be transphobic or homophobic (unless it's internalised); he'll be polite toward people provided they aren't an unholy being or deliberately offensive, so no one needs worry about that.
Comments are screened!
As for me: please let me know beforehand if any kind of child abuse is going to come up in a thread. I like to be prepared for such things, and sometimes I may need to opt-out of the thread altogether. All other sensitive topics are absolutely fine!

He has gone so far as to kill or attempt to kill members of a protestant organisation in the past, though this is by no means common behaviour since the primary target for his violence are unholy beings. On a similar note, Anderson is a highly devoted man. He is devoted primarily to God and all that entails, but he also demonstrates devotion to the children under his care and to other Iscariot member. Aside from being the Iscariot organisation's greatest weapon, he is also a priest and the director of an orphanage, whose residents he plays a fatherly role to. Some of these residents are shown to grow up to become Iscariot members and he maintains his role as their father figure even into their adulthood. He demonstrates concern and consideration for the well-being of those under his care, such as when Alucard razes through Iscariot forces and he practically pleads with his remaining men to retreat and live on. However, he is shown to be able to be just as ruthless with those he cares about as he is his enemies when they stray from God's path. When Maxwell - a man he raised from young childhood - becomes sick on power and brutalises the survivors of the Major’s attacks, Anderson directly enables Alucard’s hoard to take him down. Protestants and non-believers might be firmly in the category of enemies, but he will occasionally protect them and disapprove of their murder all the same. After all, he might be a human weapon, but he is one that is primarily concerned with protecting people. He’s also capable of great respect, even for his enemies. He respects Alucard’s strength, openly regarding him as a formidable force and worthy opponent, and extends similar respect to Integra when she shows no fear in the face of what appeared to be certain death. You can earn his respect regardless of who or what you are. Compassion, kindness, and politeness are traits Anderson also displays. Those who aren’t among Anderson’s enemies will likely find him a kind, affable man, since he might be a ruthless and sometimes bloodthirsty exterminator, but he’s still a priest, and one who runs an orphanage at that. He’s highly regarded by his underlings and the children of the orphanage for good reason. Even Alucard receives kindness and compassion from Anderson, as Anderson consoles him when Alucard is left distraught by Anderson’s loss of humanity and his pointless end. Lastly, Anderson is an intelligent man. He values knowledge and good sense, and he employs both in his day to day life and work. The brief glimpse we're given of his room shows that it is packed to the brim with books, and during fights, he doesn't take on more than he can handle unless he's on an intentional suicide mission. He also possessed the intelligence to immediately realise how Alucard's Restriction System works and how this ties into the Major's attack on London, ie. that he arranged everything to force Alucard to summon his familiars and render himself vulnerable. Duplicity development: After spending over a year in Duplicity, Anderson has grown to be more mellow and less judgemental, even befriending people he initially held a lot of hostility for (such as Rip and Alucard). He has, to some extent, accepted himself as a sexual person, and only insists on abstaining from penetrative sex. He's more at ease with seeking sex, having friends with benefits, and has even demonstrated interest in pursuing a relationship. Love is still a terribly frightening thing for him, particularly after the mess that was his feelings for Alucard, but he has a big heart and finds himself getting romantically attached to people despite his reservations. Anderson is by no means a perfect person now; a year isn't long enough to undo a lifetime of indoctrination, and he continues to be judgemental and prone to violence, but being forced to associate with people who don't belong to his religion has improved him as a person. His feelings on Duplicity and The Creator haven't changed at all since his arrival. He's still highly hostile and takes every opportunity there is to retaliate for their subjugation. He initially tried to be discreet in his hatred, but it's obvious enough that he loathes them that he often gives into the urge to bad mouth them in public. Powers and Abilities: Anderson is the Iscariot Organisation most powerful member. As such, he's absurdly strong and is one of the few capable of going toe to toe with Alucard (which is saying a lot, because Alucard is the most overpowered character I've ever encountered in my life). Inventory: A pair of bayonets. Helena's Nail. His Bible. Samples: How he thinks and how he feels are both visible on the TDM. Here's an additional thread for both those things. I've also compiled his Duplicity threads here. |
